Steinbock (2010), installed at Cargobar for Regionale 2011 I observed one Alpine ibex
(Capra ibex) in the wilderness during several months between 6 and 8 pm. The Capra ibex had been
exterminated in 1809 in Switzerland. They were regarded as a wandering medicine chest. 97 years later: In 1906 two of the last remaining ibex in the Gran Paradiso were broached from a herd
belonging to the Italian king Vittorio Emmanuelle III. These two were smuggled into Switzerland (59 Capra ibex in total from 1906 to 1933). Today they`re a protected animal.
